INTERLOCKING DOOR SYSTEMS

INTERLOCKING DOOR SYSTEMS

Thanks to a wide range of access control solutions, the Interlocking Doors System guarantees a very high security level, because of its mode of working; the second door opens only when the first door is already closed and process when the person in transit is waiting for the door to close before the next door opens, a checked by control systems like RFid/NFC badge, fingerprint, metal detector, etc. is done before permission is granted to pass through the second door.
The interlocking system may consist:

  • 1st and 2nd Door with manual opening
  • 1st and 2nd Armored Emergency Door (Entry Armored system + Exit Emergency System)
  • 1st and 2nd Door with automatic opening
  • 1st and 2nd Sliding Door (with 1 or 2 door leaves)
  • 1st Sliding Door + 2nd Manual or Automatic Door
  • 1st and 2nd Swinging-sliding Door
  • A mixed solution with different kind of doors

The interlocking system’s purpose is to have a controlled entrance/exit flow which means; checking all the persons in transit toward/from a strategic place. ZKteco Inbio panels/Paxton panels has been designing and building interlocking systems for decades and have installed a wide range of solutions (often tailored to specific customer needs).
Each interlocked system has wide range of components, which includes:

  • Central Management Unit
  • Anti-burglary Electric Locks for internal and external doors
  • IR active sensors, inside and outside the interlocked area
  • Emergency button
  • Traffic lights panels (external sides)
  • Traffic lights panels (internal sides) and many more.

An interlocking door system is one of the most secure methods of access control, but how exactly does it work?
In its simplest form, an interlocking system is composed of two doors electronically connected, so one can open only if the other is closed.

Using identification

Lets me ride you through the process – When the user arrives in front of the first door:

  • You can ring and ask for the opening,
  • The door can be automatically opened by a presence sensor,
  •  The user has to be identified (by id badge, pin code, biometric system, etc.), after that, user enters the first door which must close behind him before the second door opens and allows him to pass through. Rather like an airlock.

When you are inside the interlocking system also called mantrap the internal personnel or guards can easily block your passage and force you to go back. In other kind of interlocking system the user identification can be requested at the entrance or inside (between the two doors).

High-Level Entrance Security

Interlocking doors provide one of the highest levels of entrance control and access management available. As well as intrusion protection, they can also offer a very high physical protection with metal detector and armored structure (anti-drilling manganese steel panels, bullet proof frame and glass, blast attacks resistance, etc.).

Detection and Identification Systems

Interlocking doors are often fitted with a range of different detection systems. You can have single person passage smart sensors, for example, they detect when more than one person has entered into the mantrap and prevents the second door from opening. It is also common for metal detectors to be built into a booth when there is a threat of firearms being carried through (banks, embassies, etc.).

Piggybacking and Tailgating

Interlocking doors are particularly effective at stopping piggybacking or tailgating.

  • Can be installed a piggybacking detection system which allows to block the passage when more than one person has entered into the “mantrap” (i.e. also when a person take another person on their arms)
  • Can be installed a tailgating detection system which blocks any attempts to enter a restricted area by following closely behind someone with the correct authorization

Emergency Exit with interlocking system

ZKTeco/paxton has designed and installed many emergency exits with an integrated interlocking system. They are often requested to enforce the burglar proof level on a main entrance but at the same time they need an emergency exit (with escape-route certification). That’s possible creating a custom emergency exit with an interlocking system where each door is equipped with a special frame and elements. It’s an interlocking system with armored emergency exits (with both RC4 burglar proof and escape-route certifications).
